Holding the VAR State convention in another state is a slap in the face to Virginia. Who’s poor decision was that. Are you telling me that we don’t have facilities to host such an event in our great state? Is there no place nice enough anywhere in Virginia to appease our electorate? This sends a clear statement about our state and the VAR organization. WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THE STATE OF VIRGINIA AND THE VAR YOU HAVE CAUSED.
Walter, I’m sorry that this decision offends you. You can visit this page for an explanation of how we wound up in Baltimore. I notice that you didn’t attend the 2007 Convention & Expo which was held in Virginia, but I’ll look forward to seeing you at the Homestead in 2009, which is just up the road from Salem.
Thanks for the clarification as to why the convention is being held out of state, Ben (http://tinyurl.com/5ed4go, if you haven’t read it). Like many, I was left scratching my head on it, but as a first-time attendee …
I’ve been in real estate for a short time - 5 years - and probably like many practitioners I’ve NEVER been to the state conference. Walter, I shared your frustration when I decided to attend this year … why in the world would it be held in MD? The VA Beach Conference Center is more than suitable, as is The Homestead, or any number of other city centers around the state. Now that I’ve read the explanation, though (http://tinyurl.com/5ed4go), it makes a lot more sense. This is the tail-end of a decision made many years ago that just didn’t pan out as planned. With that explanation, I certainly have no problem with it … I’ll enjoy the Inner Harbor, see an area of the country I haven’t been to in a long time, and walk away with a HUGE return on my investment. And next year, I’ll do it all over again. I don’t know how many folks from NRVAR are going, but I know the ones I’ve talked to are really excited about it.
Walter, I’m in the Blacksburg area, and my wife and I are using the conference as not only a great opportunity for my business but a chance to do something a little different as well. Since we’re heading right by Salem, we’re glad to stop by and pick you up if you change your mind; we don’t bite, I promise, and you’d get to hear me sing - loudly, badly, and often - as we cruise down I-81. How could you turn THAT down? Phone number is 540-552-6500, email jeremy at nrvliving dot com … would love to see you there.

Ben, can anybody attend this conference, even if they are not real estate agents. I live in Northern Virginia and run a real estate investing blog, and would very much enjoy attending the blogger portion of the convention.
Best, Rob
